Muguette Bastide (1926 - present) is a painter whose influence primarily came from the 1950s. The 1950s were dominated by Abstract Expressionism, a style of painting that consisted of expressive brushstrokes, and tackled ideas about nature and spirituality. Most of her focus was on formal painting techniques, and on the statement of political freedom in the United States, as opposed to the strict nature of the Soviet Union.
